The most commonly made errors and omissions in landscape architecture will be discussed and presented based upon actual case scenarios. The professional conduct reasonably necessary for conflict avoidance will be presented. This course will include actual designs, diagrams, contract language, and other criteria commonly a component of litigation.
• Advanced Florida Building Code: Site Requirements (Course #0008383) – 2 CEUs (fulfills Advanced Building Code requirement)

This presentation details the requirements of the Florida Building Code as it pertains to site related requirements. At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant will understand and be able to apply accessible site requirements, accessible routes, accessible parking, accessible curb ramps and ramps, termite protection of soil, termite protection of wood, and inspection requirements for termites.

The politics and science of tree preservation as they relate to high profile, historic, grand, matriarch and other significantly large trees. This presentation will add emphasis to the partnerships necessary for the effort and the research-backed science to ensure success.

• Successful Compliance with Tree Ordinances (Course #0008299) – 2 optional credits

As development increasingly becomes synonymous with tree preservation, the pressures of economics, resources, and developer image bear a critical pathway to successful development. Attendees will learn research-backed applications and methodology for complying with tree ordinances, tree preservation, and depreciation of tree values in calculating mitigation of replacement criteria of regulatory agencies.

• Plant Appraisals (Course #0008297) – 2.5 optional credits

The issue of Tree Appraisals has become increasingly important in the current marketplace. Professionals are frequently being called upon to place values on landscape plants and amenities – and to defend their opinions during the dispute resolution process. Tree appraisal values must be realistic and defendable. This course offering will explain the various methodologies of plant appraisals and link these methods with actual case law pertinent to the appraisal selection.
• Fertilizers, Fertilization and Your Planting Specifications (Course #0008325) – 2 optional credits

The importance and relevance of fertilizers and soil science in plant health care, including a composite overview of accurate landscape specifications. This course will redefine how fertilizer recommendations are made in landscape notes. Attendees will learn how to differentiate fertilizer analysis from fertilizer ratios, how to successfully mitigate poor soil pH problems, identify fertilizer nutrient derivations, properly specify rates of application, recommend custom blended fertilizers, and provide clients with research- backed soil science recommendations which will establish efficacy in ongoing landscape maintenance operations.

The use of palms continues to expand as they become dominant elements in the landscape. Increasingly, the health and survival of palms is being challenged by new insect pests and diseases, and a resurgence of established pests and diseases. Predicting the future is difficult, but we can learn from the past to help mitigate current and future problems.
• Fertilizer Ordinance Statewide Fertilizer Law (Course #0008387) – 1 optional credit

A review of Florida's proposed fertilizer law and fertilizer laws that are already in place in many areas of Florida
• Transplanting Palms - A New Paradigm (Course #0008388) – 1 optional credit
Presenter: Pete Dunnington, John Deere Landscapes
A new paradigm for transplanting palm trees which ensures full and immediate marketability without the palm going into shock or a complete loss to the end user. This course will also review the 30 year history of the origins and development of growing practices for balled and burlapped (B&B) and containerized plants.
